Need a great gift idea for the foodie on your Christmas List?
Skillet Bacon Jam
Yep you read that right. Bacon + Jam.
Well, kind of.
What is Skillet Bacon Jam?
Taken from their website...
We take a big bunch of really, really good bacon, and render it down...add a bunch of spices..onions, etc. and let it simmer for about 6 hours…give it a quick puree, blast chill it…and
you have bacon jam..
We like to put it on our burger, serve it on crostini, perhaps on a grilled cheese, as a substitute for bacon on a BLT, or maybe the base for a vinaigrette.
I'll be the first to tell you that I was unsure about "Bacon Jam". Just the name of it confused me so I was excited for it to arrive so that I could see and taste (if I got up the courage) Skillet Bacon Jam for myself. Skillet Bacon Jam came in a small container. I opened it up and gave it the smell test first. Not bad at all.
While the look wasn't too inticing... remember we are talking about pureed bacon and spices, the smell was intoxicating... I grabbed a spoon to take a tiny bite.
It was mind blowing. I had a light bulb moment and my mind was suddenly full of ideas of how to use this delicious spread!
Some of the recommended uses from the Skillet Bacon Jam website include...
*as a base for a vinaigrette
*inside a scone or croissant
*substitute it for bacon in a BJLT
*on baked brie
*sautéed in some scallops
*roasted with some brussel sprouts
*wilted in a spinach salad
*on toast with a fried egg on top
*finish a potato soup with a dollop
My suggestion? Using it on a toasted bun for the best. burger. EVER!
Thats if you have enough willpower to keep from eating the entire container straight from the jar.
You can purchase Skillet Bacon Jam on their website for only $13 a jar... and you better believe it is worth EVERY penny. They also sell a three pack on their website for those who fall in love with its delicious flavor...which I would imagine is anyone who tastes it!
